🔋This Monday 23 June we had an energising start to the week as we joined the “𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞: 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐠 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬” event in Strasbourg, which was part of the 26th European Conference on Energy Transition (AETE). 💡Did you know Interreg supports energy security and advances hydrogen solutions across Europe ? 🎤 Four inspiring projects took the stage to present their results and this is what we learned: ⚡ Cellules énergétiques GR Interreg Grande Région - Großregion While energy cells can help increase the share of renewable energies in the grid across regions, today we lack low voltage grids across borders to also implement energy cells across borders. 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 within EU Member States in a first step can bring us closer to the vision of 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 and maximising its efficient distribution within the EU. 🌡️ Calorie Kehl-Strasbourg 🇪🇺🇩🇪🇫🇷 Interreg Rhin Supérieur | Oberrhein The cities of Kehl and Strasbourg are building 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬-𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭 from a steel plant that exceeds the demand in Kehl to the people of Strasbourg. Envisaged first energy delivery: 2028. Bringing the spirit of a European Energy Union to life! 🚛 H2MA Interreg Alpine Space The project has been planning a 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐥𝐩𝐬 for heavy freight and passenger transport. It has enhanced cooperation between public authorities and businesses and has suggested ways to align hydrogen mobility strategies at local and national levels. 💧 Green SKHy - A transnational initiative for hydrogen skills #InterregNWE The project is here to prepare engineers to 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝, 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧 and to set new standards for skills certifications, giving the sector greater visibility and recognition. If they had two wishes to remove barriers for hydrogen technology and its acceptance? EU-wide recognised certification for hydrogen engineers and a more nuanced approach to where and when hydrogen technology adds value. 👩🏻🔬 The audience even had the pleasure to witness how hydrogen is produced in an electrolyser model presented by Green SKHy! 👏 Many thanks to the Région Grand Est and Struktur-und Genehmigungsdirektion Süd (SGD Süd) for organising the event, and to all speakers, participants, and supporting Interreg programmes who contributed to this dynamic and insightful event! #AETE2025 #energytransition #interreg

♻️ Did you know? In 2017, less than 1% of building components in the EU were reused after their first life – a wake-up call for sustainable material management in construction. That’s exactly where the Interreg North-West Europe PREUSE project comes in. Working with cities, regions, and public actors, PREUSE is developing pilot reuse centres – hubs for storing and processing reclaimed building materials. 🏙️ Today, PREUSE partners are in Ville de Roubaix, a former textile-industry city in Northern France, for a site visit. 🏗️The focus? A reuse centre transforming a former industrial wasteland into a hub for salvaged materials – aligned with the city’s urban renewal plans.
